Mercredi, j’suis allé faire un tour avec Gabbo au lancement de Chillage Extrême, l’album de notre ami Jeune Chilly Chill qui devait sortir depuis bientôt 100 ans. Les gens se sont amusé et on est bien content que JCC puisse enfin dire qu’il y est arrivé! Voici le track en featuring avec nous.

Le 4 novembre dernier j’étais convié à un débat sur le rap québecois dans les studio de CIBL en compagnie de quelques autres artisants du milieu tel que Wizer 008, C-Drik, Cheak 13 et JohnJohn. Laurent K. Blais était aussi présent, lui qui a écrit son mémoire sur le rap québecois.
Ça a donné lieu à une bonne discussion sur différentes facettes tel que les nominations à l’ADISQ, l’évolution du rap au fil des années, la vulgarité et la perception négative, vivre de la musique, l’avenir du disque, etc.

Vous avez déjà eu droit à un de mes moments de nostalgie où je me remémore le bon vieux temps des cassettes et des émissions de radio hiphop qu’on y enregistrait la nuit, quitte à devoir manquer l’école le lendemain.
Le temps où l’internet ne fesait pas partie de notre quotidien et que de se procurer une nouvelle mixtape au Tabou ou au Science (les 2 n’existent plus maintenant) ou s’en faire une soi-même avec ce qu’on a “pêché” à la radio la nuit nous donnait le statut de missionnaire essayant de propager la “bonne nouvelle” qu’était le rap pour nous, dans notre Valleyfield natal.
On était alors quelque part entre 1995 et 1998 et on voyait les débuts du rap québecois sous nos yeux émerveillés de campivalencien jusqu’alors “pogné” avec le rap US et le rap de nos cousins français. On l’adorait notre bon vieux rap depuis qu’on l’avait adopté (”Apocalypse 91: the enemy strike black” Je me souviens!) mais d’entendre qu’une scène se formait réellement à Montréal…avec un son..vraiment différent, c’était beau.
“Mais pourquoi il raconte tout ça Papi Jeanbart?”.
Parce que cette époque me reviens inévitablement à l’esprit quand j’entends de nouveaux tracks d’anciens pionniers du rap québecois qu me donnent l’impression d’être resté fidèles à ce qu’ils étaient.
Parce que dans ce temps là, peut-être que c’était par faute de moyen, mais les groupes d’ici avait un son à eux et on jugeait les tracks selon ce qu’elles nous faisait sentir….au lieu d’essayer de créer une charte de ce qui fait que c’est du rap et qu’il est bon.
Je raconte ça aussi parce qu’en fait, je voulais vous faire écouter la nouvelle track de L’Xtrmst.Zen, ancien membre de RDPizeurs, un de mes groupes préférés de cette époque…mais j’ai dérapé du sujet. Je vais donc me taire et vous suggérer d’écouter ou de downloader en cliquant le lien sous le Youtube.
Oh….je vous avertis, c’est cru, mais la vie l’est des fois 
Last year I attended Kanye’s Glow in the dark show in Montreal. It was amazing! Most beautiful show I’ve seen to date. Visually it was impressive and it hit me in the face, saying, “Ok boy, step your game up!”
Now comes the book. A 288-page book featuring onstage and behind the scene photos by Nabil Elderkin, conceptual sketches by Kanye and an audio cd with previously unreleased live instrumentals as well as an interview with tour colaborator Spike Jonze.
The book’s due out at the end of the month.

Hier se déroulait l’édition 2009 du GAMIQ, le Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec. En gros, le penchant “indie” de l’ADISQ. Les nominations étaient assez fortes dans la catégorie Hip-Hop ( Payz Play, Movezerbe, etc..) et c’est en grande partie grâce à vous, le public, que nous l’avons emporté!
J’en profite donc pour vous remercier, au nom de tous les membres d’Omnikrom, d’avoir pris le temps d’aller voter pour nous, mais aussi de nous supporter tout au long de l’année en achetant notre musique, en la faisant découvrir à d’autres, en venant dans les shows, en portant fièrement nos t-shirts et en nous envoyant tous vos petits messages par email, facebook, myspace ou twitter.
Merci à vous tous….j’ai bu cette bière à votre santé.
The Bruxe contest is over since a week now and many of you tried to win the really nice bag named “the Johnston computer pack”. A lot of you found the exact name since all you had to do was go check the Bruxe online store.

Yesterday we pay a little visit to Montreal based Bruxe, a brand that’s specialised in accessories, and well known for their bags. I’m a big fan of their design so it was a pleasure to see the upcoming fall collection; they got some really nice new model coming this way.
Even better, each of us leaved their office with a brand new bag and their really nice Windbreaker collab with K-way. They also give me a little something for one of you that I’m gonna give in a couple of days. Stay tuned!
Ça fait longtemps que je n’ai rien écris, alors voici un recap plutôt long et en détails de notre séjour en Abitibi cette fin de semaine. Je l’ai écris samedi après le show à Rouyn, mais comme on n’avait pas d’internet, je le poste maintenant.
Vendredi matin (le depart)
Nous voici pour la 3e fois membres de la delegation montréalaise qui s’expatrie en Abitibi le temps du week-end du FME. Cette fois, on est avec la gang du Picnik Électronik qui s’est donné comme mission de convertir le reste du Québec à leur religion du BPM.

Vendredi, donc demain, je fais mon 1er “Dj set” dans la soirée de notre bon ami L’Étiquette. Sa soirée s’appele “L’Étiquette & Friends” et c’est chaque dernier vendredi du mois au Salon Officiel. Le nom dit un peu le concept, qui consiste à inviter chaque fois un ami à mixer, qu’il soit Dj ou pas. Cette fois c’est mon tour, je vous concocte un petit set assez amusant je crois et j’espère vous voir là-bas pour se défoncer un peu avec la famille!
Il paraît que je sors plus assez…je vais tous les faire mentir vendredi!
Friday I’m doing my first Dj set at our good friend L’Étiquette’s venue “L’Étiquette & Friends”. It’s every last friday of the month at Salon Officiel and the concept is to invite one of his friend, dj or not, and this time it’s my turn. I’m gonna prepare a really nice set just for your pleasure and I hope to see you there so we can party all night!
Word on the street is that I don’t party enough those days…..I’ll prove they’re wrong!

Earlier this week I paid a visit to the montreal office of legendary Vice Magazine. You probably already know about this mag, it’s been around since 1994 and was born here in Montreal. They’re now officially based in NY but have offices all around the world.
Here’s Annie Q. from VICE Québec and the montreal office.
VICE is not only a paper magazine distributed freely in many cities around the globe, VICE is also a really nice Website (Viceland), a webTV and a record label. The montreal office do many things for the development, including adaptation for Quebec’s french population.
I suggest you take a look at their website and their webTV and try to grab the paper edition if you see one in your city. Long live to one of the unique magazine giving us content really different from the others out there for 15 years. For the folks who like reading about which country produces the sloppiest drunks then aan interview with a drug addicted rock band followed by an article about the situation in North Korea.

You’ll found everything at VICE office… from old 1995 mag when they were called Voice to good ol’ rat food!
At the end of the 90’s/beginning of the 00’s there was a new wave of nerdy, kind of hyppies weird experimental rap that was an “alternative” for those who were looking for something else than what “commercial rap” was at that time. I was one of them…
One of the main crew of that movement was Anticon. Deconstructed rap, people really into crate-digging (finding THE rare, never sample vinyl) and rappers with flow that were going in direction they don’t usually go.
This kind of rap still exist even if it’s less popular than it was and I found this new free mixtape(you have to give your email) by one of my favorite band of the time, Themselves( Dose & Jel). If your curious take a look and listen to the mixtape and peep this video of Jel doing what he do best, incredible drum-machine skills on the mpc.
Our good friend Genevan, the freshest man in Switzerland, spend most of is time between Geneva and Miami and like he say: “You’re in the building, I’m on the beach”. No wonder he’s doing a serie of “beach interviews”.

The people who follow me on Twitter already knew that I was working on a “special project” and here it is. A tribute to Michael Jackson Mixtape called “On est tous des Jackson”(we all are Jacksons) where I reinvented 5 of his classics.
I kept the original beats to keep most of the flavor of the tracks but the subject and lyrics are different while keeping the original mood.
Michael Jackson was the biggest musical icon and my main influence so this Mixtape is my way to express that. Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did doing it.
